Nurse Practitioner/Physician's Assistant
Essential Responsibilities
- Examines patient, takes medical history, records results, and makes preliminary diagnosis or decides on follow-up procedures.
- Performs therapeutic procedures such as immunizations, injections, suturing and wound care, and manages infection.
- Exercises professional judgment regarding consultation with supervising physicians concerning appropriate treatment.
- Develops and implements patient care plans, instructs and counsels patients, and records progress.
- Prescribes medications to the extent allowable by state guidelines and clinic regulations.
- Provides general health education regarding matters such as proper diet, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
Qualifications
- Education/Experience:
- Physician’s Assistant: Master’s degree from an accredited PA program plus two years of clinical training following completion of PA program.
- Nurse Practitioner: Master’s of Nursing (NP) or Doctor of Nursing (DNP) from an accredited program, and state licensure through AANP or ANCC.
- Continued Employment Requirements:
- PA: 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and passing a recertification examination every six years.
- NP: 100 hours of continuing medical education every five years and passing a recertification examination every six years.
- Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Demonstrate skills necessary to provide leadership and direction to staff and the population served.
- Good writing and communication skills.
- Computer Skills: Experience with medical records systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- Certificates & Licenses:
- Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed.
- Valid Michigan Chauffeur License and approved by The Salvation Army MVR.

Continued employment requires 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and passing a recertification examination every six years for PAs, and 100 hours of continuing medical education every five years and passing a recertification examination every six years for NPs.
Or Nurse Practitioner: Master’s of Nursing (NP) or Doctor of Nursing (DNP) from an accredited program, and state licensure through AANP or ANCC.
