About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice including obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examinations, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such as patient and family education and counseling.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining comprehensive patient histories and performing complete physical examinations.
  • Ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening.
  • Diagnosing illness and prescribing treatments.
  • Providing health maintenance and promotion interventions.
  • Assuming accountability for indirect care responsibilities, including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Completion of Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Master's of Science program from an accredited college or university.
  • Successful completion of a National Certification Exam for NP/PA.
  • Current registration through the Alabama board of Nursing and/or Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Credential approval through the Huntsville Hospital credentialing board.
  • BLS required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years full-time ER or Critical Care RN and/or CRNP/PA experience recommended.

Qualifications

  • Education: Completion of Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Master's of Science program from an accredited college or university.
  • Licenses, certifications, and registrations: Successful completion of a National Certification Exam for NP/PA. Current registration through the Alabama board of Nursing and/or Board of Medical Examiners. Approval of the Huntsville Hospital credentialing board.
  • Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Knowledge of all equipment and materials required for procedures described in the Surgical Service Line Policy/Procedure Manual and Nursing Service Procedure Manual.
