Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant - Liquid Tumor

About the role

The Inpatient Liquid Tumor Advanced Practice Provider at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) supports hospital-based oncology teams, focusing on high-quality, coordinated inpatient care for patients with liquid tumors. This role requires at least 1-2 years of Oncology experience as an RN or Advanced Practice Provider.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced assessment and daily management of a cohort of liquid tumor patients, including documentation and family-centered care planning.
• Lead day-to-day coordination of the liquid tumor service, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to oversee chemotherapy ordering, procedures, supportive care, and discharge planning.
• Partner closely with outpatient teams to ensure efficient, safe, and smooth transitions of care between in-patient and outpatient.
• Participate in division-wide conferences and team meetings; attend the weekly leukemia/lymphoma conference and share key insights and clinical updates with the broader team.
• Perform credentialed procedures, including bone marrow aspirates/biopsies, lumbar punctures with intrathecal chemotherapy, and skin biopsies.
• Work closely with the other APPs to ensure the team maintains procedural competencies.
• Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment plan, using the most current evidence to modify the plan of care based on patient/family response.
• Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, procedures, and discharge care.
• Serve as a clinical resource and educator for fellows, residents, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff.
• Consult with multidisciplinary team members to support high-quality oncology care.
• Engage in research, education, and scholarly activities, maintaining competencies and pursuing ongoing professional development.
• Precept and mentor trainees and colleagues.
• Demonstrate a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety.
• Share errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms.
• Demonstrate shared accountability for safe practice.

Requirements

• Master's Degree in Nursing or Master's Degree in Physician Assistant.
• At least 1-2 years of Oncology experience as an RN or Advanced Practice Provider.
• Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) (Pennsylvania) or Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) (New Jersey), required upon hire.
• Prescriptive Authority (Pennsylvania) or Prescriptive Authority (New Jersey), required within 3 months of hire.
• Specialty Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the area of education/subspecialty, required upon hire.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) or Registered Nurse (New Jersey), required upon hire.
• Prescriptive Authority (Pennsylvania) or Prescriptive Authority (New Jersey), required within 3 months of hire.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to work in an inter-professional team setting with multiple responsibilities.
• Ability to use computer and electronic medical records effectively.

$104,600.00 - $138,600.00 Annually
