Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Emergency Department

About the role

The Emergency Department (ED) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to work 12-hour shifts in alignment with the department’s APP clinical hour requirement. Shifts will be variable, with rotating start times; a weekend commitment will also be required.

Responsibilities

• Autonomously coordinates care for ED patients in the fast track, mid-track, and acute care areas.
• Treat common patient populations and chief complaints including chest pain, abdominal pain, infectious work-ups, syncope, orthopedic injuries, dermatologic issues, transplant complications, stroke/TIA work-ups, OB/GYN and GU issues, and other medical conditions.
• Performs independent visits as well as shared visits with attendings in all Emergency Departments.
• Completes focused history and physical exams, and orders and interprets labs, EKG/telemetry, and other diagnostic studies.
• Orders medications and coordinates patient care plans, often requiring consultation with other disciplines.
• Provides safe, high quality, comprehensive care to patients in a fast-paced and dynamic ED that emphasizes patient flow and throughput.

Requirements

• National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistant (required for PAs)
• American Nurses Credentialing Center or American Association of Nurse Practitioners (required for NPs)
• Basic Cardiac Life Support/BLS from the American Heart Association (required)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support from the American Heart Association (required)
• All Pennsylvania state license (required)
• DEA (required)

Qualifications

• Master of Arts or Science (required)
• Graduate of an Accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Training Program
• Minimum of 2.5 years of prior Advanced Practice work experience is preferred, Emergency Medicine experience is also preferred

Pay

The pay range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000 annually.
