Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant, Cancer Care Access Program
About the role
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Physician Assistant (PA) is part of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Cancer Care Access Program (CCAP), which aims to place Dana-Farber at the forefront of efforts to reduce differences in cancer outcomes across local communities. The NP/PA will provide care to patients in CCAP’s onsite Cancer Diagnostic Clinics located within Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) throughout the Greater Boston area.
The NP/PA will evaluate adult patients referred by primary care providers at participating FQHCs for new, existing, or prior cancer diagnoses; benign hematologic conditions; breast concerns; and other concerning cancer-related symptoms.
This role requires travel to local FQHCs to provide onsite clinic services. Bilingual or multilingual proficiency is preferred. Prior experience practicing in community-based clinics is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Conduct cancer screening, diagnostic workups, and follow-up care
- Reconnect patients to cancer care and facilitate referrals for second opinions
- Provide cancer survivorship care and patient education
- Manage outpatient care for acute and chronic problems associated with cancer, its treatment, and related conditions
- Provide anticipatory guidance, patient and family education, and psychological and emotional support
- Exercise prescriptive authority, including schedule II through V controlled substances in Massachusetts
- Collaborate as a member of an interdisciplinary care team, communicating effectively with co-workers and external institutions
- Apply critical thinking, research principles, and leadership to improve care quality and advance nursing/medical practice
- Pursue continuous learning to strengthen knowledge and support the Institute’s mission
Requirements
Nurse Practitioner (NP) Qualifications
- Authorization to practice in an expanded role as a Nurse Practitioner in Massachusetts
- Current certification from a nationally recognized accrediting body approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
- Minimum of 24 contact hours beyond generic education in pharmacotherapeutics
- Master’s degree in Nursing
- Minimum of 1 year of oncology nursing experience or 1 year of Nurse Practitioner experience
- Oncology Nurse Practitioner experience preferred
- Possession of Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Federal DEA numbers
- Certification in Oncology Nursing preferred (OCN, AOCN, CPON, BMTCN, CPHON)
Physician Assistant (PA) Qualifications
- Master’s Degree and successful completion of an AAPA/NCCPA accredited Physician Assistant Studies program
- NCCPA certification and licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in Massachusetts
- Current DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Licenses
- Completion of 100 hours of CME every 2 years as per national and state regulations
- PA III: 5 years of qualifying professional Physician Assistant experience
Pay
The hiring range for this position is $126,100.00 - $204,732.50. For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Individual salaries are based on factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and the candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and qualifications.
