About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider will respond to all code stroke events or stroke related neurology consult requests throughout the hospital, actively involved in the ongoing discussion of treatment plan with the attending physician on call. They will stay with the patient until they are medically stable and order appropriate medications, diagnostic testing, and treatments. They will communicate diagnostic and treatment information to the patient and their families and maintain ongoing communication with other provider teams involved in patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on prevention, diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment of disease, including patient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
  • Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.
  • Maintain records and report as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
  • Coordinate and/or participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
  • Aid in the coordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and liaison between the patient and other healthcare providers.
  • Provide assistance in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel as needed.
  • Act as the expert clinical resource to the clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing with an Acute Care NP certification, or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Depending on the unit/department, ACLS certification and/or PALS certification may be required.
