Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (Tier II) - Inpatient Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy

Works collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team to provide care for patients in both outpatient clinic and inpatient settings, addressing acute and chronic issues in disease management and treatment-related complications.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient care duties according to established standards, policies, and patient-specific protocols.
• Annually demonstrates performance competency in:
  • Obtaining medical, family, and social histories, performing physical examinations.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies and laboratory tests.
  • Interpreting patient data to diagnose disease and disease stage.
  • Identifying and implementing appropriate medical treatment (protocol or non-protocol).
  • Writing orders as permitted by Clinical Staff Rules and Regulations.
  • Monitoring and evaluating patient response to treatment.
  • Facilitating patient referrals and providing follow-up to healthcare providers.
  • Performing diagnostic procedures as prescribed by treatment guidelines or clinical status changes.
• Collects and records patient data using effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Monitors treatment guideline and clinical research flow sheets; participates in scholarly dissemination of research data.
• Collaborates in developing clinical research flow sheets by assisting in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
• Assists in research by developing clinical research objectives and adhering to clinical trial protocols; accurately records research information.
• Educates patients, families, students, and orients new employees; assesses learning needs to facilitate self-care development.
• Orients and precepts advanced practice students, medical residents, nursing visitors, and fellows.
• Maintains current professional knowledge through regular attendance at conferences and meetings.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age-appropriate care principles and applies them to patient assessment and treatment.
• Participates in improving systems to prevent patient care incidents and enhance safety and quality.
• Participates in care coordination across the continuum.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to meet department and institutional goals.

Requirements

• Must have passed the certification exam for either Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
• For Nurse Practitioners, Acute Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-AC) certification is highly preferred.
• Pediatrics and hematology and/or oncology experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Nurse Practitioner:
  • Master’s degree in nursing required.
  • Current Advanced Practice Nurse License issued by the Tennessee State Board of Nursing (LC: AP-TN).
  • Current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a non-Compact state (LC: RN-TN), or a current license in the state of primary residence if it is a Nurse Licensure Compact state (LC: RN-ARK, RN-MISS, or RN-KY).
  • Supervising Physician verified by St. Jude Managed Care Department (LC: SUPMD).
  • Nurse Practitioner Certification: American Nurses Credentialing Center (LC: ANCC-NP), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (LC: AA-NP), or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (LC: PNCB).
  • Certificate of Fitness: State of Tennessee - Division of Health Related Boards (LC: CERTFIT).
  • DEA certification: U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration within 6 months of employment (LC: DEA).
• Physician Assistant:
  • Graduate of a Physician Assistant Program accredited by the Accreditation and Review Commission on Physician Assistant Education (ARC-PA).
  • Licensed by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners to practice as a physician assistant (LC: PA-TN).
  • Certified by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) (LC: NCCPA-CERT).
  • Supervising Physician verified by St. Jude Managed Care Department (LC: SUPMD).
  • DEA certified by U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration within 6 months of employment (LC: DEA).
• BLS/PALS/ACLS certifications required.

Schedule

Tier II Advanced Practitioners work a combination of weekdays, weekends, and holidays according to scheduling guidelines. The full-time role splits time between the Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy clinic and inpatient settings.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $104,000 - $186,160 per year for the role of Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (Tier II).
