Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - South Austin

Texas Health Action Physicians (THAP), a part of Texas Health Action (THA), is a community-informed non-profit organization dedicated to providing access to culturally affirming, quality health services in a safe and supportive environment, with expertise in serving LGBTQIA+ people and those impacted by HIV. Kind Clinic serves Texas with four locations: two in Austin, one in San Antonio, and one in Dallas, plus virtual care services available to all residents across Texas.

About the role

The Kind Clinic Clinician (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) works with clinical nurses and medical assistants to evaluate, plan, and provide care for patients in consultation with and under direct supervision of the attending Physician. The ideal candidate maintains effective communication with patients, staff, and physicians; provides patient care in a competent, professional, and courteous manner; and keeps abreast of current research to incorporate relevant findings into clinical practice.

Responsibilities

• Performs clinical procedures under direction of attending Physician and according to approved protocols
• Performs a wide range of activities, including but not limited to: assessment, history & physical, recommendations for patient plan of care
• Monitors patient progress
• Maintains patient medical records according to established standards
• Maintains communication with the supervisory physician(s) and attending physician to review patient records and care plans on a routine basis
• Collaborates with attending physicians, facility staff members, and other agencies to coordinate optimal care and use of resources for the patient/family
• Works independently and interacts as a team member with all levels of clinical staff
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Maintains a timely schedule; works to prevent extended patient wait times
• Implements changes in clinical protocols as soon as informed
• Maintains an up-to-date knowledge base on SDOs, SOPs, and Protocols

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing or Physician Assistant’s Program
• 2+ years outpatient experience as a NP or PA
• Unrestricted and valid license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Texas
• Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) registrations IIIV for the purpose of writing prescriptions
• Current CPR certification
• Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations
• Active board certification appropriate to licensure is required

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience working with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ and other marginalized populations
• Master’s Degree in Nursing
• Working knowledge of Athena electronic medical record software
• Working knowledge of healthcare insurance
• Bilingual: English and Spanish

Physical Requirements

• Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly
• Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information orally and make fine discriminations in sound
• Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers
• Ability to exert up to 12 pounds of force occasionally and to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
• Minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction to complete administrative and clerical tasks, as well as inspect and analyze
• Ability to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation, and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions and move from one task to another
• Work is predominantly inside; worker may be subjected to temperature changes but is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position requiring 40 hours a week with some night and weekend hours.

Pay

The starting base salary is $120,000. The actual starting rate will be determined based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience. A $7,000 signing bonus is offered, paid as follows: $3,000 after successful completion of new hire training and a 90-day probationary period, $2,000 at six months, and $2,000 at the one-year anniversary. The employee must remain actively employed and in good standing through each payout date.
