About the role
The UAB Medicine Department of Rheumatology seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join a multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care. The role involves collaborative and independent practice within the Department of Rheumatology at The Kirklin Clinic and Whitaker Clinic.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage new and established patients through in-person and telehealth visits.
- Conduct rheumatologic evaluations and work-ups, interpret laboratory and imaging results, diagnose and treat rheumatologic conditions, and coordinate ongoing patient care.
- Perform procedures such as knee joint aspirations and injections, knee burst injections, shoulder burst injections, and greater trochanteric bursa injections.
- Collaborate with physicians, fellows, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and nursing staff to deliver comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and patient-centered care.
- Coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate to meet the age-specific needs of the patient.
- Plan and coordinate health care education for patients, families, and other healthcare providers as needed.
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments, interpret, analyze, and evaluate patient’s medical record and social data.
- Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.
- Maintain records and report as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Provide assistance in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel as needed.
- Conduct workshops, in-service training, and distribute educational materials for patients and staff.
- Serve as the expert clinical resource to clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.
- Ensure a safe environment for patients and others.
- Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Nursing with an Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner certification, or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Depending on the unit/department, ACLS certification and/or PALS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
Benefits
Full-time benefited APPs receive an annual $2,000.00 CME allowance, which can be used for recertification, applicable fees, CME courses, etc. that occur after a new employee's start date.
Pay
Salary commensurate with experience.
Schedule
Full-time, day shift Monday - Friday (8am-5pm), no weekends, holidays, or call.
