Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Pulmonary Inpatient - PM
About the Role
UAB Hospital's Pulmonary Division is expanding and looking for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Pulmonary Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team. This full-time inpatient position provides care for diverse and medically complex pulmonary patients during their hospital stay. You will collaborate closely with a supportive team of physicians and APPs dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-focused care. Schedule
Full-time, benefited 12-hour PM shift: 14 shifts per month. Weekends and holidays are required.
Pay
Base salary plus a $20,000.00 PM stipend (paid out monthly at $1,666.67). Full-time benefited APPs receive an annual $2,000.00 CME allowance for recertification, applicable fees, CME courses, and related expenses.
Responsibilities
- Provide medical care and treatment within established scope of practice to pulmonary inpatients under the direction of a collaborating physician.
- Coordinate plan of care, discharge, and specialty referrals to meet age-specific patient needs.
- Plan and coordinate health care education for patients, families, and other health care providers.
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments.
- Interpret, analyze, and evaluate patient medical records and social data.
- Perform and/or assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement.
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Maintain complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.
- Ensure compliance with records and reporting requirements from regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
- Participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
- Assist in coordinating research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and liaison.
- Provide orientation and training for new clinical personnel as needed.
- Conduct workshops, in-service training, and distribute educational materials for patients and staff.
- Serve as an expert clinical resource in the specialty area.

Requirements
- Master's degree in Nursing with an Adult Acute Care NP certification or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
- Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Acute Care Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the AHA may be required.
