About the role

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hired for this role will partner with and perform clinical duties under the general supervision of the Division Chief of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology. The candidate will be responsible for providing outpatient clinical care in support of the memory disorders practice.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining complete medical history and performing a physical examination.
  • Ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies.
  • Administering and interpreting appropriate cognitive screening tests (MMSE, MoCA, RUDAS).
  • Formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Evaluating outcomes of patient care and making necessary revisions in care plan.
  • Setting priorities for appropriate and efficient management of patient care that reflect cost effective management of time, available human resources, supplies, and equipment.
  • Performing physical examinations within prescribed guidelines and appropriate to patient needs.
  • Recording pertinent patient care findings in the medical record.
  • Maintaining an interdisciplinary approach to planning and communicating patient care information with appropriate providers within neurology and other departments at Boston Medical Center.
  • Soliciting and providing consultative services as required.
  • Demonstrating awareness of community resources and assisting staff, patients, and families to effectively utilize them.
  • Prescribing and/or dispensing medication.
  • May be involved with a patient's medical care in any role which the attending physician deems proper and consistent with applicable law, hospital regulations, delineation of privileges, and the Nurse Practitioner's or Physician Assistant’s training, knowledge, skill, and experience.

Requirements

  • Qualified Nurse Practitioners will: Hold master’s degree in nursing, have a current license to practice as a registered nurse practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with APRN authorization by the Board of Registration in Nursing, be registered with the ANCC or other accrediting organization for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Qualified Physician Assistants will: Hold at least a bachelor’s degree and must be a graduate of a PA Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA) or its predecessor, be eligible for the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) PANCE and eligible for PA licensure in the State of Massachusetts, Documentation of Massachusetts PA license and initial NCCPA certification is required upon hire.
  • Both types of candidates will have a Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration, a Federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration, current BLS Certification, and a minimum of three years of current clinical experience is required. Prior experience in a similar clinical setting/specialty preferred.
