About the role

Join the Gastrointestinal Oncology Care Team as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant specializing in pancreatic cancer. In this challenging and rewarding role, you will build meaningful relationships with patients and families, help guide them through complex treatment decisions, and contribute to highly coordinated, multidisciplinary cancer care.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will be an integral part of our adult Medical Oncology outpatient practice, seeing adult patients with gastrointestinal malignancies as part of our GI care teams. NPs and PAs see patients at initial consultation and follow established patients, guiding them through their treatment plan in close collaboration with medical oncologists. The NP or PA manages treatment-related toxicities for patients who are going through standard and research-based cancer treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapies, and targeted therapies. The role spans curative-intent treatment, survivorship, evaluation of treatment response or disease progression, clinical trial enrollment, symptom management, and end-of-life care.

The GI group has 6 care teams comprising Consultants, NPs, PAs, RNs, and other allied health professionals. These teams are subdivided into the following subspecialty focus areas: Colorectal, Gastroesophageal, Pancreatic, Hepatobiliary, and Neuroendocrine cancers. There is cross coverage to provide support to patients with all GI malignancies. The teams work in close collaboration with colleagues from Gastroenterology, Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care, and other multidisciplinary teams.

The NP or PA will have a central role on the team to provide continuity for patients, serve as a provider resource for nursing, and help with coordination of care across multidisciplinary teams. Oncology experience is valued, but motivated candidates with strong clinical skills and a commitment to learning will be supported as they grow into the role.

Responsibilities

• Build meaningful relationships with patients and families, guiding them through complex treatment decisions.
• See patients at initial consultation and follow established patients through their treatment plan.
• Manage treatment-related toxicities for patients undergoing standard and research-based cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapies, and targeted therapies.
• Provide care spanning curative-intent treatment, survivorship, evaluation of treatment response or disease progression, clinical trial enrollment, symptom management, and end-of-life care.
• Serve as a central team member to provide continuity for patients and coordination of care across multidisciplinary teams.
• Act as a provider resource for nursing staff.

Qualifications

For Nurse Practitioners:

• Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current Minnesota RN license and certification (or eligible to be certified) as a FNP, ANP, or ACNP (certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment date).
• Eligible for DEA registration and billing privileges.

For Physician Assistants:

• Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice (or eligible).
• Eligible for DEA registration and billing privileges.

External and internal candidates are asked to attach 2-3 letters of reference to their online application.
