Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Inpatient Domain (A) Critical Care, ICU

This role is an integral part of the care delivery system, working to provide a healing environment by placing patients first. The incumbent delivers specialty and critical care services primarily in an inpatient setting for acute or chronic conditions, adhering to the CRNP scope of practice. This position requires 24/7 coverage, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts, with rotation of shifts.

Responsibilities

• Provides comprehensive, evidence-based patient care for acute patients within an inpatient setting, including daily rounds, advanced medical history and physical assessments, treatment planning, diagnostic interpretation, and discharge planning. (20%)
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies to determine patient treatment plans and establish medical diagnoses within the scope of practice.
• Collaborates proactively with the attending physician and interdisciplinary team to develop and refine patient care plans, seeking consultation for decisions beyond the CRNP scope. (15%)
• Institutes emergency measures, treatment, and stabilization for acute situations such as cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, or shock. (15%)
• Ensures timely and accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to support medical coding, billing, and regulatory compliance. (10%)
• Facilitates communication and coordination among patients, families, community health services, and the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care. (10%)
• Assesses patient and family learning needs, providing culturally sensitive and age-appropriate education on conditions, treatment plans, and self-care strategies. (10%)
• Communicates effectively with the attending physician regarding care plans and involves them in clinical decision-making as needed. (10%)
• Maintains mandatory continuing education and participates in patient safety, quality improvement, and engagement initiatives. (10%)
• Performs hospital rounds, executes physician orders, and upholds professional practice consistent with organizational mission and specialty privileges. (10%)
• Performs all other assigned duties.

Requirements

• MSN from a State Board of Nursing-approved Master’s Program.
• National Board Certification for Nurse Practitioners through an accredited association.
• State licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the practicing state.
• Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies (for PA roles).
• Current PA Physician Assistant License; PA-C or board-eligible with ongoing NCCPA recertification.
• CPR certification (American Heart Association).
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
• Prescriptive Authority from the practicing state (within 60 days of hire).
• Drug Enforcement Agency Licensure (within 60 days of hire).
• ACLS certification.

Preferred: Experience in Emergency or Critical Care settings.

Substitutions: Four to ten years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
