Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant roles at St. Tammany Health System support physicians with the admission of patients to the hospital from emergency rooms or direct admissions. They work collaboratively with the Hospitalist team to evaluate, treat, and coordinate care for hospitalized patients.

Primary Duties

  • Examine patients and review medical history prior to admission
  • Perform and document a H&P that is co-signed by the attending physician within 24 hours
  • Place orders for appropriate diagnostic and treatment modalities as part of the care plan
  • Seek appropriate specialty and sub-specialty consultations
  • Formalize the patient handoff process as part of continuity of care
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues involved in the care team

Minimum Qualifications

  • Nurse Practitioner: Minimum Master’s prepared, curriculum includes clinical experience in Acute Care, current Louisiana RN license, APRN licensure in Louisiana, eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana
  • Physician Assistant: Minimum Master’s prepared, curriculum includes clinical experience in Acute Care, current PA licensure in Louisiana, eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana

Physical Demands

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include standing, sitting, or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise. Physical effort required: Constant (67%-100%) - hearing, seeing; Frequently (34%-66%) - handling/feeling, talking; Occasionally (1%-33%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, crouching, reaching, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.).
