Nurse Practitioner, Oncology Infusion BWH

About the Role

The Oncology Infusion Department is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (36 hours/week) to join the Infusion Center team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The Infusion APP will work within adult Oncology and Medical Infusion Center(s) as an infusion first responder, promote infusion service access and efficiency, and may provide urgent care/symptom management in close collaboration with longitudinal medicine providers. Work locations include the Main Campus in Boston, 850 Boylston in Chestnut Hill, and other off-site locations as determined by clinical staffing needs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a first responder for acute reactions and medical emergencies within the infusion department.
• Collaborate with oncology primary teams and nursing staff to ensure continuity of care across the care continuum.
• Provide consultation to nurses and providers to maintain and improve access to infusion services.
• Write, modify, and addend orders in accordance with current guidelines.
• Maintain practice in accordance with practitioner guidelines per state and hospital regulations.
• Serve on intra- and interdepartmental committees.
• Collaborate with unit staff, providers, professional development managers, APP leaders, and nurse directors to meet staff and patient educational needs.
• Monitor patient outcomes in accordance with defined standards of patient care.
• Facilitate patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources via interdepartmental collaboration.
• Support educational efforts to advance knowledge and promote evidence-based practice.
• Evaluate own practice and program effectiveness.
• Maintain professional growth and required credentials.
• Perform physical examinations and provide preventive health measures appropriate to patient needs.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate lab and diagnostic tests to assess clinical problems and healthcare needs.
• Develop and implement care plans based on diagnostic and lab findings.
• Order medications and write prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies.
• Record patient care findings in the medical record.
• Set priorities for efficient management of patient care, reflecting cost-effective use of resources.
• Assist in developing, implementing, and revising nurse practitioner guidelines and monitoring requirements for prescription writing.
• Evaluate outcomes of patient care and revise care plans as necessary.
• Participate in departmental and organizational quality improvement programs.
• Demonstrate collaborative and consultative relationships with providers within the institution and community.
• Serve on nursing and hospital committees and disseminate information to staff.
• Participate in setting productivity metrics and cost-effective management of personnel, time, supplies, and equipment.
• Provide input into the evaluation of staff and participate in the selection of new employees.
• Act as a preceptor for nursing students and staff, and participate in orientation of new staff.
• Identify learning needs and update clinical knowledge through education and literature review.
• Educate lay and professional groups through lectures, publications, and educational materials.
• Develop annual objectives and review with nursing leadership and collaborating physicians.
• Complete annual credentialing process.
• Assist in determining, evaluating, and implementing clinical area goals and objectives.
• Participate in nursing research and grant writing as appropriate.
• May assume responsibility for providing direction to designated personnel.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Master’s, DNP, or PhD Degree in Nursing required.
• Completion of a Master’s or post-Master’s degree in adult or family NP program accredited by CCNE or NLNAC required.
• Current Acute Care, Adult/Geriatric, or Family Nurse Practitioner Certification by an accredited APRN certifying body required.
• Valid prescriptive authority from both MA DPH and Federal DEA required.
• Current APRN license to practice in Massachusetts required.
• At least three years of recent clinical Nurse Practitioner experience in oncology required.
• Demonstrated experience as a responding clinician/APRN to acute adverse reactions required.
• Prior nursing experience in oncology infusion or medical infusion preferred.

Clinical Standards

Nurse practitioner practice conforms to generally accepted standards of care as promulgated by the American Nurses Association and other relevant professional organizations. Patient care management is based on current evidence and sound clinical judgment. Clinical references may include but are not limited to: Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine; Physician’s Desk Reference; Barker, Principles of Ambulatory Medicine.

Pay

$50.70 - $134.78/hourly
