Nurse Practitioner (NP)
About the role
University Clinical Health (UCH) is the only independent and physician-led faculty practice plan of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, offering best-in-class clinical care through a network of 175+ providers across 19 specialties. The Nurse Practitioner will provide patient care under the direct supervision of a physician, including assessing and diagnosing patients in the hospital, based at Methodist University Hospital.
Responsibilities
The Nurse Practitioner will provide patient care, including assessing and diagnosing patients, and coordinating stroke care with Attendings, Fellows, Residents, and multidisciplinary providers throughout the patient journey. Key areas of responsibility include patient care, patient assessment, patient treatment plans, patient procedure, patient orders, test interpretation, patient/parent education, prescription writing, patient satisfaction, regulatory compliance, chart documentation, evaluation of care, and case review to attending physician.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Nursing and certification as a Nurse Practitioner required (must include Certification and prescriptive authority)
- State of Tennessee licensure is required
- 3-5 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred
Skills
- Strong communication skills to coordinate stroke care with Attendings, Fellows, Residents, and multidisciplinary providers throughout the patient journey
- Ability to effectively build and maintain patient relationships while staying within the required scope of practice and escalate to physicians as necessary
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and FDA
- Demonstrated ability to treat and provide appropriate care for patients with acute stroke symptoms
- Ability to triage inpatients and report findings to attending physician
- Knowledge of coding and billing parameters that govern the provision of patient care by Nurse Practitioner within state of Tennessee and as applicable to individual carriers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
