About the role
The Nurse Practitioner II, Psychiatry at Texas A&M University Health Science Center, College of Nursing, provides clinical assessments and diagnostic evaluations. They also provide crisis intervention for patients with mental health care needs, prescribe and monitor medications, and assume responsibility for difficult and complex patients based on experience or area of expertise.
Responsibilities
- Clinical Assessments and Evaluations
- Engages in clinical assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
- Provides crisis intervention for patients with mental health care needs.
- Maintains patients to ensure adherence to treatment plans.
- Assumes responsibility for difficult and complex patients based on experience or area of expertise.
- Medication Management and Documentation
- Prescribes and monitors medications.
- Completes accurate and appropriate documentation of patient encounters in the electronic medical records system in a timely manner.
- Acts in accordance with all departmental policies/procedures, relevant licensing boards, and local, state, and federal laws regulating Nurse Practitioners.
- Counseling and Consultation
- Engages in counseling/clinical-related activities and works closely with the Integrated Behavioral Health unit.
- Consults with other providers regarding patients' psychiatric medications and treatment plans to ensure appropriateness and coordination of care.
- Serves as an internal resource for staff and medical providers regarding psychiatric-mental health care questions.
- Education and Training
- May serve as a practicum instructor or preceptor for graduate or undergraduate students.
- Participates in continuing education to maintain licensure and board certification.
- May conduct scholarly presentations to clinic staff and participate in educational activities for staff, students, and trainees of other disciplines.
- Administrative Duties
- Engages in various administrative aspects of counseling/clinical cases.
- Completes outside referrals as needed.
- May assist in preparing patient educational materials.
Requirements
Required Education And Experience:
- A Master’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent level of education and experience that qualifies the applicant to hold a Nurse Practitioner License in Texas.
- Texas Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licenses with prescriptive authority in Texas.
- Board certified in mental health.
- DEA registration.
- BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in MAT.
Skills
Bilingual.
