About the Role

Under general supervision and in collaboration with physician colleagues, responsible for diagnosing and treating patients. Provides continuity of patient care by facilitating and coordinating communication between the health care team, patient, and patient’s family. Coordinates care to ensure quality, effective care, and patient safety. Serves as a link integrating relevant research and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • In clinical collaboration with the attending physician, provides day-to-day organizational and clinical direction and leadership of the healthcare team.
  • Performs comprehensive history and physical assessment for patients admitted/scheduled to service/practice setting.
  • Orders, obtains, and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • Establishes medical diagnosis based on history, assessment, and diagnostic findings, with MD collaboration as needed.
  • Maintains updated mandatory training and immunizations as recommended per practice area.

Requirements

  • Master of Science degree in Nursing with completion of a Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland.
  • Valid state APRN Recognition (must meet education requirement(s) for state recognition and obtain within six (6) months of hire).
  • DEA and CDS eligible.
  • CPR and BLS required; ACLS and/or other relevant certifications as required by the department.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse is preferred.
  • Demonstrates ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to population-specific and age-specific needs.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical, and nursing staff on all essential matters.

Pay

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Exact salary will depend on factors such as geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor, span of control, education/training, and other qualifications.
