Responsibilities
- Direct patient care - including telephone, video, and face-to-face outpatient care
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests
- Suscribing medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines
- Consultation
- Research
Requirements
- Nurse Practitioner (NP): Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care
- Assesses - plans - implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components
- Coordinates care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care - patient and family education - patient self-management after discharge - and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction
- Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team
Qualifications
- Knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs
- Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others (VA Handbook 5005 - Part II - Appendix G6)
- Demonstrates proficiency in decision-making and using the nursing process for complex situations that effect performance outcomes at the point of care
- Enhances practice through development of collegial relationships
- Demonstrates self-sufficiency by the ability to solve problems independently
- Demonstrates critical thinking with efficiency and accuracy in assessing and managing situations
