Nurse Practitioner: Endocrinology

Position Overview

Provide advanced practice care for pediatric patients with endocrine conditions, including diabetes, thyroid disease, growth concerns, puberty disorders, and related hormonal disorders. Work collaboratively with pediatric endocrinologists and the multidisciplinary care team to support diagnosis, treatment planning, education, follow-up, and care coordination.

Orientation: Orientation in Akron (6 months) before permanent employment in Marietta. Length of orientation will depend on experience level. Orientation flexibility and accommodations for travel and living. Position available to NPs and PAs.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, evaluate, and manage pediatric endocrine patients within scope of practice and in collaboration with supervising physicians.
• Order, review, and interpret labs, imaging, glucose data, insulin pump downloads, and continuous glucose monitoring reports.
• Develop and adjust individualized care plans, including medication management, diabetes technology support, patient education, and follow-up planning.
• Educate patients and families on chronic condition management, medication use, sick-day plans, device use, and long-term health goals.
• Coordinate care with families, schools, primary care providers, and specialty services while maintaining accurate and timely documentation.
• Perform health assessments and physical exams.
• Identify significant health and medical risk factors.
• Order, interpret and evaluate tests and studies to assess clinical problems and health care needs.
• Develop a diagnosis by analyzing and synthesizing collected data.
• Independently and in collaboration with the physician, develop treatment plans along with the patient and significant others.
• Perform diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with board certification, state law and organizational medical staff privileges.
• May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through Ohio Board of Nursing and hospital policy.
• Develop patient education plan.
• Participate in medical team rounds; collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care.
• Performs admission history & physical, document progress notes, complete discharge summaries as required.
• Provides consultations and requests consults as directed and in accordance with hospital bylaws.
• Assists with and facilitates discharge planning.
• May serve as resource for staff/residents and clinical preceptor for APN students.
• Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in pediatric endocrinology, pediatric diabetes care, pediatric primary care, adolescent medicine, or a related specialty.
• Familiarity with insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring, diabetes education, growth hormone therapy, thyroid management, and endocrine lab interpretation.
• Comfortable providing family-centered education and supporting children, adolescents, and caregivers managing chronic conditions.

Qualifications

• Master's or Doctoral Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Licensed as an RN in State of Ohio.
• National Certification as a nurse practitioner by nationally accredited organization.
• Must have current certificate of authority and certificate to prescribe (or eligible) by Ohio Board of Nursing.
• ACLS or PALS may be required based upon practice setting.
• Must obtain credentialing as an active member of medical staff and appropriate medical staff privileges.
• Current Health Care Provider BLS training is required.
• Individuals hired without an MSN or DNP and those hired without a certificate to prescribe must actively pursue and obtain a MSN or DNP degree/certificate to prescribe.

Skills

• Excellent critical thinking, self-motivation and interpersonal communication skills essential.
• Must be proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and database use, and other computer software programs for data analysis, and presentations.
