This is a full-time, benefitted position for a one-year Advanced Practice Clinician Dermatology Fellowship, running from January 2027 to December 2027. The role is probationary and time-limited.

About the Role

The Department of Dermatology at the University of Utah’s School of Medicine is seeking motivated candidates interested in academic medicine for the Advanced Practice Clinician Dermatology Fellowship. The fellowship provides comprehensive training in dermatology, aiming to broaden and strengthen clinical knowledge and develop an analytical, systematic approach to diagnosing and caring for dermatology patients. Fellows will rotate through various general dermatology and sub-specialty clinics, including the Rapid Access Dermatology Clinic. The goal is to build confident providers with effective communication skills capable of delivering high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain focused medical histories and perform specialty-appropriate physical examinations.
  • Identify diagnoses and formulate appropriate medical plans and prognoses.
  • Collaborate with physicians on complex patient care plans and treatments.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests appropriately.
  • Perform selected invasive procedures for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes within scope of validated competence.
  • Initiate or recommend pharmacologic therapies or other therapeutic treatments and procedures in accordance with approved protocols and policies.
  • Comply with medical records policies, ensuring complete and accurate documentation of patient care.
  • Maintain required records and legal documents.
  • Participate in continuing medical education, including specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards, and conferences.
  • Counsel patients, families, and significant others about health and illness, promoting health maintenance.
  • Assist in collecting data for research projects.

Requirements

  • Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner is the only equivalency accepted).
  • National Certification requiring successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
  • Utah State prescriptive privileges.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of the specialty area.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teaching, research, and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
  • Knowledge of life span growth and development principles and ability to assess patient data as described in department policies and procedures.
  • This position is patient-sensitive and requires immunization compliance according to CDC standards and hospital policy, with limited exemptions for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in ACLS, BLS, NRP, or ATLS (may be required by department or privileging criteria).

Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Monday through Friday, day shift.
  • Fellowship duration: January 2027 to December 2027.

Pay

Pay rate range: $70,000.
