About the Role

The Nurse Practitioner (NP), under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, provides a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. Responsibilities include ensuring proper documentation of services, communicating scheduling changes, and arranging coverage for medical services during extended absences.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts routine and emergency medical care for inmates, including chronic care clinics, infirmary rounds, and on-site emergency treatment.
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures for medical care, including documentation in SOAP format, formulary regimens, and in-house resource utilization.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions, reporting concerns to the Medical Director or Health Services Administrator.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with accepted practices for incarcerated individuals.
  • Provides input into facility mandatory committees as requested.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Prior medical/surgical, emergency/trauma, or corrections experience is preferred.
  • Patience and tact to effectively work with the inmate patient population in a corrections environment.
  • Scheduling flexibility to rotate hours and shifts, and availability for emergency coverage.

Qualifications

  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.
  • Current CPR certification.
