Nurse Practitioner Cardiology PD

About the role

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is accountable for facilitating a quality hospital experience and outcome for patients within a cost-effective time frame. This role reports to the Medical Director of Cardiology and oversees the progress of a specific caseload of patients across the care continuum, primarily for acute, in-hospital care. Acts as an educator, consultant, and liaison to healthcare providers caring for patients.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates a fundamental medical knowledge base with mastery of knowledge within cardiology.
• Manages a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care.
• Provides leadership in the development, validation, implementation, and evaluation of standards, policies, procedures, and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model.
• Oversees care coordination in the acute care setting, including triage from the Emergency Department, inpatient care, and discharge planning.
• Partners with the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed-upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support, education, and encouragement.
• Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics.
• Provides direct care to patients in the acute care setting in collaboration with the Cardiologist.
• Performs advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director.
• Participates in the education, clinical research, and mentoring of healthcare providers.
• Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise.
• May rotate to the Cardiology Procedural Care Unit and/or Advanced Heart Failure service.
• Annually completes mandatory safety infection control, BLS, and ACLS.
• Exercises prescriptive privileges per licensure.

Requirements

• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
• Baccalaureate in nursing, or equivalent.
• At least a Master of Science Degree in the field of nursing.
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Specialty certification required.
• Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges in the State of Rhode Island.
• OR Bachelor’s Degree and two years of graduate study in an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current registration as a Physician Assistant in the State of Rhode Island.
• Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

Experience

• Two years of related experience as an RN in an acute care hospital setting and preferred 1-2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
• OR 1-2 years of experience as a Physician Assistant.
• Experience in cardiology preferred.
• Experience with EPIC is a plus.

Work Environment

General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.

Pay

$61.30 - $77.78 per hour.

Schedule

• Sunday - Saturday (12-hour shifts).
• Day shift.
• Per diem - as required.
