Nurse Practitioner - Cardiology (Part Time)

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, part of Stony Brook Medicine, provides direct access to the highest level of academic-based medical care. About the role

The Nurse Practitioner in the Cardiology Department provides quality service by performing a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for the admission of patients scheduled for cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, stress tests, echos, and chest pain observation. The Nurse Practitioner works in conjunction with the Cardiologist to provide consultation to in-patients, utilizing processes of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and outcome evaluation. As an independent healthcare provider, the Nurse Practitioner will collaborate closely with the Medical Director of Cardiology and physicians within the department.

Responsibilities

• Deliver quality care in preparing cardiology patients for invasive cardiac procedures (cardiac cath/EP), echo, and stress testing.
• Evaluate and treat cardiac patients, obtain consents, and follow patients post-cardiac catheterization.
• Admit and discharge patients from the cardiology service.
• Assist in growing the Cardiology line of services at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.

Requirements

• Master’s in Nursing Degree and completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program.
• New York State Licensed Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner.
• Nurse Practitioner National Board Certification in specialty area.
• Completion of a pharmacology component of not less than three (3) semester hours or equivalent, including instruction in NYS laws relating to prescription and record keeping (3-hour course).
• Previous experience relevant to cardiology and prescriptive privileges in NYS.
• Current BLS/ACLS/PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association.

• Travel to other locations may be required to support operational needs.
• This position may require wearing respiratory protection, which may prohibit facial hair.
• This role may be designated as “essential,” requiring employees to remain at work or report during institutional emergencies to protect, recover, and continue operations.

Pre-employment Requirements

• Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services.
• Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
• Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
• Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Pay

$74.20 - $80.87 per hour.
