About the role

Responsible for direct patient care and coordination within the Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Assesses patients through health history and physical examination, initiates and orders therapeutic and diagnostic procedures following clinical protocols, and educates patients according to department and specialty standards. Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers to implement treatment plans. Supports the clinical, educational, and academic mission of the institution, including potential teaching and mentorship through institutional training programs such as the WCM PA Program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct outpatient and/or inpatient care.
  • Evaluate new and established patients by obtaining comprehensive or focused health histories and performing physical examinations.
  • Order labs, imaging, diagnostic testing, and consultations; review and interpret results to develop patient care plans.
  • Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions following accepted standards of care and practice guidelines.
  • Perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as appropriate for the department and training.
  • Document patient encounters in medical records according to best practice standards.
  • Counsel and educate patients and care providers on disease management, prevention, and health promotion, considering cultural, educational, and psychosocial needs.
  • Collaborate with specialists, attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participate in performance improvement and educational activities.
  • Assist in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
  • Perform additional duties as required by patient or practice needs, within legal scope of practice and departmental protocols.

Requirements

  • Master's of Science Degree in Nursing.
  • Approximately 2 or more years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner in a physician practice or hospital setting, preferably within a related specialty. New graduates with relevant RN experience may be considered.
  • Prior experience or interest in clinical teaching, precepting, or involvement in advanced practice provider training programs is preferred.

Qualifications

  • NYS Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) license and current NP registration.
  • NYS Registered Professional Nurse license and current RN registration.
  • Applicable National Board Certification (e.g., ANCC, PNCB).
  • Current BLS certification (issued by the American Heart Association).
  • Infection Control Certificate.
  • Current Narcotics DEA registration certificate.

Pay

Salary range: $150,300 – $160,800 per year.

Schedule

35 hours per week.
