About the role

The NP utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus in a correctional environment. The NP works with a variety of healthcare professionals and security officers to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.

Responsibilities

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.
• Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
• Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited college/university NP program.
• At least 2+ years experience as an NP.
• Must possess current independent licensure and certifications in the state of MA.
• Experience in corrections desired but not required.

Pay

$75–$80 per hour.

Schedule

Full-time, 32 hours per week.
