Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, including patient history, physical exams, and risk evaluations in the hospital setting.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic cardiac conditions such as heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, and coronary artery disease.
- Interpret diagnostic studies including EKGs, echocardiograms, lab results, and imaging.
- Provide pre- and post-procedure care for hospitalized patients undergoing cardiac interventions (e.g., catheterizations, device implants).
- Manage daily hospital rounds, including documentation, order entry, and care plan updates.
- Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, and consulting teams to coordinate patient care.
Coordination & Communication
- Serve as a liaison between physicians, hospital staff, and ancillary services.
- Cook up admissions, transfers, and discharges with appropriate follow-up planning.
- Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding care plans and prognosis.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and case discussions.
- Conduct peer-to-peer reviews with insurance companies for treatment approvals.
Schedule & Availability
- Participate in night, weekend, and holiday call rotations.
- Work one weekend per month (full-time) or every other month (part-time).
- Cover one winter and one summer holiday annually.
- Schedule primarily aligned with hospital rounding needs; no outpatient clinic schedule.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN/DNP) from an accredited program.
- Board-certified Nurse Practitioner (ANCC, AANP) with AGACNP preferred; FNP with strong inpatient cardiology experience considered.
- Active NP licensure in Missouri and Illinois.
- Minimum of 2 years of cardiology or inpatient experience preferred.
- Strong clinical decision-making skills in acute care settings.
- Proficiency in EMR systems.
- Ability to travel between hospital locations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements
- Full range of body motion.
- Sit, stand, walk, and communicate in person and by phone.
- Use hands to operate standard office equipment; reach with arms; lift up to 35 pounds.
