Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Knowledge and demonstration of agency core values in day-to-day activities
- Collaborates with the Medical Director regarding psychiatric health services, education, and any other clinical needs
- Completes psychiatric assessment across the life span
- Conducts psychiatric assessments including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment; mental status examination and DSM 5 diagnoses
- Participates in case review to collaborate with the clinical team and provide feedback and recommendations
- Orders laboratory tests, interrupts, and explains the test results to individuals and families if applicable
- Performs or recommends age-appropriate screening procedures
- Works with children and their families in anticipation of developmental milestones and life cycle events
- Collaborates with the care team regarding an individual’s physical/behavioral needs. Makes appropriate community referrals for further assessment and treatment as needed
- Prescribes psychotropic medications and conducts regular assessment of therapeutic responses and side effects and educates individuals/families regarding psychotropic medications
- Provides age-appropriate therapy sessions to include family education
- Returns calls and emails promptly (within 24 hours of receipt or sooner if clinically necessary)
- Responsible for maintaining customer relations with all agency staff and clients
- Provides psychiatric services to individuals in a variety of clinical settings during scheduled hours
- Assesses, diagnoses, and treats adults, adolescents, and children experiencing symptoms of a behavioral health disorders
- Prescribes, recommends, or discontinues drugs and treatments to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement and the state’s Nurse Practice Act
- Performs crisis assessment and management of individuals during regular work hours, during other hours, and as on-call backup as needed
- Sets and submits written reports and oral testimony and presentation of opinion in commitment and other legal proceedings and in a wide range of treatment, rehabilitative, and support services matters (e.g., AOT, Social Security applications, prior authorization of mediation, etc.)
- Participates and supervises the development of the comprehensive treatment plan for each patient at treatment planning meetings
Skills/Competencies
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of the characteristics and problems of adults and children with severe and persistent mental illness
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of effective clinical practices and principles
- Strong clinical skills and experience providing treatment to persons with severe and persistent mental illness
- Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to effectively communicate, negotiate, persuade and instruct
- Exceptional judgment and decision-making skills
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- Proficient in the use of computer software such as MSWord, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Education Requirements
- Board certified or Board eligible in Psychiatry
- Licensed to practice medicine in the state in which the program is operating
Experience
- Appropriate to situation
