About the role
The Nurse Practitioner (Children's National Pediatricians & Associates) works independently with collaborative supervision using intuitive skills when problem solving in complex clinical situations. Demonstrates a highly skilled analytical ability in novel circumstances. The NP is credentialed to function in an expanded nursing role. Responsible for the assessment and management of patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and the implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. All activities are performed within the guidelines of protocols agreed upon by the Medical Director and under medical supervision. Participates in clinical research and/or the utilization of its results. Remains involved in multidisciplinary consultation for the delivery of patient care. All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, CNH Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assess individual patient clinical status and well-being by obtaining complete medical history and examination; developmental assessment; ordering appropriate laboratory tests, and x-rays as indicated.
- Gather and maintain patient medical records including lab, MRI, EEG results, and abnormal lab findings; interpret results and plan interventions accordingly.
- Collaborate with other health care team members, clinics and community agencies; address patients care needs.
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care, based on existing protocols and individual patient and family needs, including continuity of care issues.
- Perform minor procedures when indicated (e.g. ear irrigation, suture removal).
- Independently prescribe legend drugs according to guidelines.
- Provide clinical expertise for patients, families, and team members.
- Serve as a role model in clinical practice for complex patient care issues.
- Direct management of patient in emergency situations.
- Enhance professional nursing by participating in professional organizations and committees.
- Participates in on call rotation for individual practice as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: MSN Graduation from an approved education program for Nurse Practitioners.
- Minimum Work Experience: At least one (1) year of experience as a nurse practitioner.
- Required Licenses And Certifications: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure in the state(s) of clinical practice; meets credentialing requirements of Children’s National Medical staff office; Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS); Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified (FNP-BC).
