About the Role

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician, this role provides nursing care to individuals and groups, applying basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Physicians, NPs, and RNs in patient assessment and contributes to planning and evaluating quality patient care.
  • Provides direct technical nursing care to patients.
  • Administers medications ordered by a licensed provider after completing the 90-hour Pharmacology Course and passing the National Exam.
  • Maintains excellence in clinical competency and nursing skills through continuing education.
  • Informs Physician, NP, or RN of patient's symptoms, reactions, progress, and other pertinent information.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly environment for patients, visitors, and staff while practicing Universal Precautions.
  • Participates in the ongoing quality improvement program and responds to results from data collection.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program and maintains current licensure in the State of Ohio.
  • Functions within the scope of practice for a licensed practical nurse as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Maintains BCLS certification.
  • Possesses basic analytical ability to perform assigned tasks and gather and interpret data in non-complex situations.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients under the supervision of a licensed physician, NP, and/or RN.

Skills

  • Phlebotomy, EKG, vital signs, medication administration (oral, nebulizer, IM, SQ) for children and adults.
  • Ear lavage, monofilament testing, glucometer use, occult blood testing, visual and auditory acuity assessments.
  • Strep screen, urinalysis, urine pregnancy tests, specimen collection and preparation as applicable to the practice setting.
  • Proficient operation of office machines, including office computer systems (IDX, EMR, Meditech), fax, telephone, and photocopier.

LMH is accredited by DNV and TJC, which may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.
