Nurse (Outpatient Behavioral Health)

About the role

The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements as outlined by VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Provides complex psychiatric care to Veterans, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary treatment team under the direction of the Program Coordinator.
• Leads care coordination, crisis intervention, and patient education while mentoring staff, improving policies and outcomes, ensuring privacy and safety, and flexibly meeting clinic operational needs.
• Demonstrates performance and leadership that improves care for a group of outpatients.
• Supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to ensure safe, quality outpatient nursing care.
• Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of health care professionals.
• Evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations.
• Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level, responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components.
• Administers medications and procedures according to established policies and guidelines.
• Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to managing complex client care.

Requirements

• English Language Proficiency: No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
• Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE; or completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Nursing; or a Master's degree in Nursing or a related field with a BSN; or a Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field with a BSN.
• Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
• Experience: 2 years of experience working with Substance Disorder and 2 years of experience working with Mental Health patients.

Qualifications
