Nurse Midwife

About the role

The Certified Nurse Midwife provides direct clinical care to patients at the health center under the general direction of the Medical Director. This role includes performing assessments, providing women's health and prenatal care, working closely with collaborating physicians, and participating in clinical performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities

• Performs assessments of patients including history taking and physical examination.
• Provides women’s health and prenatal care, including diagnostic and therapeutic assessments, treatment of conditions and illnesses within the scope of practice, referral and follow-up of patients.
• Works closely with collaborating physician and follows the joint protocol for Advance Practice Nurses and collaborating physicians.
• Leads clinical support staff and provides accessible and quality preventive, acute and chronic care.
• Participates in night and weekend call coverage in rotation with other providers.
• Affords assistance to patients in accessing community resources, referrals and other services.
• Attends regular meetings of the medical staff and participates in clinical performance improvement activities.
• Ensures compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations, maintains licensing, credentialing and educational activities, and follows established policies and protocols for clinical care.
• Engages in community health initiatives and participates in in-service educational programs and continuing education.

Requirements

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to relate well to a diverse group of patients and staff.
• Able and willing to work on an as-needed basis to meet operational needs of the clinic.
• Proficient with computers and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of federal programs and community health centers is a plus.
• Knowledge of trauma informed care principles applicable to the scope of the position.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish required.

Education and Experience

• Possession of a current nursing license in New Jersey.
• Certification as a nurse midwife in the state of New Jersey.
• Possession of a valid DEA and CDS registration.
• BLS Certification.
• Training and certification as a Nurse Midwife.
• Minimum 1-year clinical practice in an ambulatory care setting preferred.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish required.
