About the Role

Primary responsibilities include treating students for illness and injuries during Health Center hours and ordering and maintaining all prescription medications that are kept and distributed by the Health Center. Works closely with the Assistant Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing, and Medical Director to ensure care for students is properly administered and coordinated. This position works full time during the school year when students are on campus and a limited number of hours over the summer.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing and treating students for injuries/illness. When on call, nurses are required to report to the Health Center to assess students as needed.
  • Testing and caring for students with communicable diseases such as COVID-19, flu, and other illnesses outlined in the Communicable Disease Policy.
  • Strict adherence to the Health Center and school’s infection control management plan, including frequent use of PPE, sanitizing, and disinfecting per the school’s policies.
  • Administration of daily, controlled and non-controlled medication that is dispensed in the Health Center.
  • Appropriately charting student’s visits to the Health Center in Magnus and Veracross.
  • Communicating with faculty/administration and parents as needed regarding the health and well-being of students.
  • Maintenance of the Health Center’s kitchen, laundry, and infirmary beds.
  • Reviews Policy and Procedures manual prior to the start of each school year.
  • Follow nursing protocols as outlined in the Policy and Procedures manual.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled by the Director of Nursing.
  • Maintains controlled substance inventory, including weekly medication counts.
  • Communicates with parents, pharmacy, and physicians regarding medication orders, compliance, and safe administration.
  • Maintains regular communication with the school community, students, advisors, and parents to ensure and improve medication compliance.
  • Keeps health center staff informed of medication changes, updates, and other important information regarding medication.
  • During the summer, communicates with parents and prescribing doctors to ensure that medications are ordered and ready for the start of the school year.
  • Oversees proper disposal of expired and discontinued medications.
  • Maintains appropriate licensure and certifications.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years previous nursing experience (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing (preferred).
  • Flexible work schedule, including weekends, evenings, and overnight on-call shifts.
  • Be within 30 minutes driving distance from the school.

Pay

$40–$45 per hour.
