About the role

Provide high-quality, community-based nursing care and clinical leadership for individuals served at BHN's Holyoke and Westfield Respite sites.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, schedule, support, and evaluate program nurses while coordinating nursing coverage and workflow across shifts.
  • Complete comprehensive nursing assessments, including review of systems, diagnosis, and mental status, and recommend appropriate treatment or referrals using the least restrictive approach.
  • Transcribe, verify, administer, refill, inventory, and dispose of medications in accordance with Medication Administration Program (MAP) policies and protocols.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Nurse Manager, providers, program leadership, staff, pharmacies, and collateral partners to support treatment planning, medical interventions, and continuity of care.
  • Monitor individuals' health status, treatment progress, medication needs, and self-medication skills, responding promptly to emerging medical or behavioral health concerns.
  • Educate individuals served and staff about health conditions, medications, self-medication skills, MAP requirements, vital signs, and high-alert medication procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and supportive program environment while building rapport and reinforcing appropriate clinical and professional boundaries.
  • Complete and approve nursing assessments, progress notes, medication orders, inventories, discharge summaries, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Facilitate transfers, aftercare planning, and discharge to the next appropriate level of care while managing medical supplies, required training, licensure, and other essential program operations.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year of experience or training working with a behavioral health population and one year of post-graduate medical-surgical nursing experience required.
  • Strong understanding of mental health conditions and appropriate pharmaceutical, medical, and psychoeducational interventions required.
  • Knowledge of Medication Administration Program (MAP) policies and procedures, including safe administration of high-alert medications, required.

  • Ability to assess and coordinate medical and psychiatric needs, facilitate appropriate referrals, and deliver high-quality community-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop nursing staff, manage competing priorities, respond effectively to urgent needs, and promote accountability and teamwork.
  • Cultural responsiveness and the ability to build trust and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with complex or challenging needs.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, problem-solving, organization, technology, and verbal and written communication skills.

Pay

Salary Range: $95,000-$115,000
