Nurse Manager, Postpartum and Level IIA Special Care Nursery
Emerson Health is looking for an experienced, collaborative, and people-focused Nurse Manager to lead our Postpartum Unit and Level IIA Special Care Nursery.
Responsibilities
- Provide visible, accessible, and collaborative leadership for the Postpartum Unit and Level IIA Special Care Nursery.
- Promote safe, equitable, evidence-based, and family-centered care for mothers, newborns, and families.
- Create a positive and healthy work environment built on trust, respect, teamwork, accountability, psychological safety, and shared excellence.
- Champion shared governance and partner with the unit-based council and frontline staff to improve clinical practice, workflows, policies, and unit priorities.
- Oversee daily operations including census, acuity, staffing, assignments, skill mix, patient flow, admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Participate in recruitment, onboarding, retention, succession planning, and workforce development.
- Coach and develop staff through rounding, timely feedback, recognition, goal setting, annual reviews, and performance management when needed.
- Lead quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives using data, audits, event reviews, and staff feedback to identify opportunities and sustain improvement.
- Support best practices in postpartum recovery, couplet care, newborn stabilization and monitoring, infant feeding, bonding, family education, discharge readiness, and connection to community resources.
- Ensure coordinated and compassionate care for newborns requiring Special Care Nursery services, including family integration, transfer planning, and collaboration with higher-level neonatal centers when needed.
- Advance culturally responsive and inclusive care for the diverse families and communities served by Emerson Health.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing required. Master's degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of five years of progressive maternal newborn nursing experience required. Postpartum and Level II Special Care Nursery, Special Care Nursery, or comparable neonatal care experience required. Demonstrated clinical leadership experience required. Previous formal supervisory or nurse manager experience preferred.
- Licensure and Certification: Current Massachusetts registered nurse license required. Current BLS certification required. Current NRP certification required or must be obtained within three months of hire. National certification in maternal newborn nursing or neonatal nursing preferred.
