Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the health care team to develop and implement a schedule and staffing plan.
  • Approves department final schedule.
  • Assists the Director in the planning and management of the departmental budget.
  • Achieves Results: Utilizes the performance improvement process to identify opportunities for improving outcomes in clinical effectiveness, clinical practice, service operations, and standards.
  • Collaborates with the Director and Nurse Educator/Clinical Nurse Specialist to develop and implement improvements accordingly.
  • Aids in the resolution of customer satisfaction and quality issues.
  • Learns new job skills/ knowledge quickly and is able to teach others.
  • Maintains professional competencies by attending educational programs and participating in professional organizations.
  • Pre-approves verbal and attendance-related Records of Conference administered by other members of the leadership team.
  • Participates with the Director and Nurse Educator/Clinical Nurse Specialist, and staff in the recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention process.
  • Ensures Position Control for department is correct and completes Personnel Action Forms as needed with changes.
  • Provides justification for requisitions based on department performance.
  • Empowers Associates to make decisions about quality, cost effective care and customer service.
  • Conducts Quarterly Performance Reviews with Associates complete with individual scorecards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school required.
  • Masters degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Valid RN License from Virginia or reciprocal compact state required.
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
  • AHA ACLS Provider required at hire.
  • Professional Nursing Leadership Certification (ANCC or AONL) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years clinical nursing experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years management experience required.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in verbal and written communication; as well as computerized systems.
  • Experience with electronic systems and programs.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Demonstrates collaboration with physicians, staff and Mary Washington Healthcare Associates.
  • Demonstrates the ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrates professional and positive behavior.
