About the Role

At Stony Brook Medicine, the Nurse Manager for Phillips Family Cancer Center (PFCC) at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital directs the daily clinical operations and workflow of the cancer center. The Nurse Manager supervises the nursing team, oversees patient care coordination, and ensures delivery of the highest quality, evidence-based safety standards throughout the patient’s treatment journey. This position works in close collaboration with the main campus Cancer Center, including leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary clinical teams, to ensure seamless coordination of services, optimize operational efficiency, and deliver the highest quality cancer care. The role reports directly to the Sr. Director of Nursing, with an administrative reporting matrix to the Administrative Director of PFCC. This position is fully on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and introduces approved standards and guidelines for the oncology program.
  • Collaborates with Policies and Procedures to support the functional infrastructure of the department.
  • Works on payroll and budget with the assistance of the finance department.
  • Creates monthly schedules for all nursing/staff members assigned to units.
  • Conducts day-to-day and patient rounds to identify needs.
  • Troubleshoots patient issues at the Cancer Center.
  • Participates in regulatory agency compliance activities, meetings, and issues.
  • Engages in quality improvement projects.
  • Supervises identification and resolution of on-site issues.
  • Serves as a patient, family, and staff advocate.
  • Reviews staff policies, competencies, and educational files.
  • Conducts performance appraisals for all responsible staff members.
  • Participates in the hiring process for all staff units.
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, technical staff, social workers, and patient access staff.
  • Aligns and collaborates with SBUH Cancer Center, SBUH Radiation Oncology, sub-specialty UFPCs, and SBSH Senior Leadership teams to integrate programs.
  • Works with the Operations Manager to ensure day-to-day operational efficiency and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborates with leadership of other departments on guidelines affecting the Phillips Family Cancer Center to support quality patient care and meet health and safety standards.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Current NYS RN licensure/registration.
  • BSN from an accredited school.
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent oncology experience.
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy certificate (obtained within one year of hire).
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a clinical healthcare environment, including responsibility for coordinating staff, workflows, programs, or patient care services.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communicative, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong customer service and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSN Degree.

As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs.

Pay

$125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year.

Schedule

Full-time, on-site.

  • Prior to the start date, the selected candidate must:
    • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services.
    • Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
    • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
    • Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.
    • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
  • This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
  • This function/position may be designated as “essential,” requiring employees to remain at their work location or report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations during an institutional emergency.
