Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the Medical Services Department.
- Clear knowledge of the policies and procedures for the Medical Services Department and Northstar Behavioral Health.
- Develop direct staff recognizing future goals and helping implement them.
- Assure that all staff are current on their Mantoux test.
- Measure compliance on a consistent basis by auditing client charts.
- Work with Provider and NPS Nurses to ensure delivery of provider ordered services.
- Implement written policies and procedures for the administration, storage, and control of medications and supplies.
- Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staffing meetings.
- Develop, Maintain, and periodically update the written procedure for ensuring that professional nursing personnel have valid and current licenses.
- Participate in new employee orientation.
- Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to discrimination.
- Provide direct nursing care.
- Assist with the implementation of safety standards for the Medical Services Department.
- Monitor nursing service personnel to assure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
- Afford oversight of nursing personnel to set up continuing care plans for client discharges, including but not limited to: on-going psych appointments, medical appointments, dental appointments, MAT follow ups.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all client care information.
- Ensure that all medical care provided by Northstar Behavioral Health personnel is provided in privacy.
- Afford assurance that all qualified Behavioral Health Technicians and other staff, deemed necessary, are adequately trained to provide medications, through Northstar Behavioral Health Medication Administration Training.
- Conduct CPR/First Aid training as needed.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
- Maintain a reference library of written nursing material that will assist the Medical Services Department in meeting the day-to-day needs of the clients.
- Assist with the development and implementation and maintenance of an ongoing quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
- Participate in inspections made by DHS.
- Provide Health Education Groups
Required Skills & Experience
- Must be licensed by the State of Minnesota as a Registered Nurse.
- Must have two years of freedom from chemical use problems.
- Must pass a State of Minnesota Background Check.
- CPR Certification or attain within 30 days.
- Must know and understand the implications of 245G, sections 245A.65, 626.557, and 626.5572, and Chapter 260E.
- Ability to use Microsoft office programs and other computer skills.
