Nurse Manager
About the role
The Nurse Manager at Freedom Behavioral’s West Monroe facility oversees all direct care nursing staff, ensuring the unit is staffed safely and according to protocol. They provide assistance with decision making, clinical judgement issues, and medical staff communication. The role also involves direct patient care, assuming nursing administrator on call duties, overseeing the nursing staff, participating in QAPI processes, coordinating staffing, collaborating with HR on hiring and termination, completing performance evaluations, facilitating admissions, maintaining admission criteria documentation, and participating in the Utilization and Treatment Team.
Responsibilities
- Uphold standards of care established by regulatory and accrediting bodies
- Provide oversight and direction to all direct care nursing staff
- Ensure the unit is staffed safely and according to protocol
- Assist nursing staff with decision making, clinical judgement issues, and medical staff communication
- Provide direct patient care when indicated
- Assume nursing administrator on call duties when indicated
- Oversee the nursing staff
- Participate in the QAPI process, monitoring, tracking, and analyzing nursing data
- Coordinate with the Staffing Coordinator to ensure proper patient care is maintained by shifts being adequately staffed
- Coordinate the performance of nursing care to patients within the scope of practice and in compliance with policies, procedures, and standards
- Collaborate with Human Resources on hiring and termination of employees in the nursing department
- Complete performance evaluations for nursing staff as scheduled
- Facilitate admissions into the facility in a timely manner
- Maintain knowledge of admission criteria and accurately document admission criteria for new admissions
- Participate in the Utilization and Treatment Team to communicate identified patient goals, interventions, and assessments
- Act as a resource for all administrative, nursing, and direct care staff in formulating policies, procedures, forms, and processes affecting the nursing department and patient care
- Ensure survey readiness through regulatory compliance and quality standards of care
- Collaborate on facilities’ projects and program development to oversee the safe, accurate, development, and implementation of patient care
- Participate as a member of the leadership team within the facility
Requirements
- Education: Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing minimum, with MSN oversight. Masters Prepared strongly preferred
- Licenses: Current RN License in good standing with the State of Louisiana
Qualifications
- Previous psychiatric management experience is preferred
