Nurse Manager - 8th Floor Med/Surg - Full Time - Evenings

About the Role

The Nurse Manager is responsible for managing the operation and function of the nursing unit/department, promoting high-quality patient care, and fostering an environment conducive to staff growth and development. This role supports the values and goals of the Department of Nursing and the hospital while working under the general direction of a Director or Senior Manager.

Responsibilities

• Manage, supervise, and coordinate the delivery of optimal patient care.
• Ensure the effective and efficient operation of the unit and staff, including adherence to orders, treatments, and plans of care.
• Ensure unit compliance with clinical patient care standards and regulations.
• Coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency.
• Implement the clinical area’s strategic and operational plans.
• Ensure staffing and scheduling supports efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective patient care.
• Deliver a professional practice model that encourages staff participation in developing clinical standards collaboratively.
• Consult and coordinate with other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to care.
• Conduct patient rounds with staff routinely and prioritize staff nurse rounding with attending/consulting physicians.
• Lead or participate in change-of-shift, morning, and discharge planning meetings.
• Serve as a clinical resource, professional role model, and mentor to staff.
• Act as a change agent to facilitate communication and transition.
• Promote customer service in all interactions.
• Partner with leadership and Human Resources on performance management, hiring, transfers, corrective actions, and terminations.
• Resolve staff issues and grievances fairly and consistently.
• Ensure complete and accurate documentation of patient care.
• Lead safety and performance improvement activities.
• Ensure timely and positive resolution of customer complaints.
• Evaluate staff clinical competencies and develop programs for continued clinical development.
• Monitor budgets and expenses, making modifications as appropriate.
• Ensure the availability of supplies and equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing).
• 3 years of nursing experience.
• Prior charge or supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge and competency in clinical areas.
• Proven ability to lead, guide, and motivate staff.
• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Registered Nurse licensure in New York State.
• Current CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in medical/surgical, nursing home, or related specialty.
• Proficiency with Epic EMR.
• Certification in an applicable area of specialization.

Pay

$90,000 - $144,000 salaried.
