Nurse Extern- Progressive Care Unit
About the Role
The Contingent Nurse Extern functions as a collaborative member of the health care team in partnership with and under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). Utilizing principles of Relationship-based Care, performs basic direct patient care to a specific group of patients. Actively supports the activities of the unit-based shared governance council. Promotes organizational commitment and excellence in the patient experience, and in compliance with the standards of professional behavior within nursing.
Responsibilities
- Provide basic direct patient care under the supervision of an RN.
- Support unit-based shared governance council activities.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills with hospital personnel, patients, and community groups.
- Adapt to increased complexity of assignments based on demonstrated competencies and unit guidelines.
- Use positive communication approaches to meet diverse patient needs and optimize resources.
Requirements
- Currently attending and in good standing at an accredited school of nursing.
- Must maintain continuous "active" student status and attach current transcript.
- Must have successfully completed two (2) clinical nursing rotations, of which one was a Medical/Surgical rotation.
- Current BCLS (Basic Life Support Certification).
- Excellent customer service, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to adapt to changes in assigned hours, shifts, or days of work based on departmental or organizational needs.
