Location: Hershey, PA. Work Type: PRN. Shift: Varied. Hours: Varied hours. Recruiter: Renee Webster (rfoster4@pennstatehealth.psu.edu). SUMMER 2027 NURSE EXTERNSHIP (May 17 – July 24, 2027). Penn State Hershey Medical Center is an Academic Medical Center with four-time Magnet accreditation. The externship is a 10‑week program for nursing students entering their final year, beginning with a two‑week orientation (classroom and clinical). The 24‑bed intensive care unit cares for patients with multi‑system organ failure, ARDS, sepsis, GI hemorrhage, acute renal/liver failure, acid‑base/electrolyte imbalances, diabetes, substance use disorder, and post‑cardiac arrest hypothermia.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures under the guidance of an assigned RN.
• Partner with an RN to learn and demonstrate physical assessment skills.
• Learn and demonstrate routine basic care skills: bathing, safety, and hygiene activities.
• Participate in a two‑week orientation that includes classroom and clinical components.

• Nursing student in the final year of an accredited nursing program.
