Nurse Extern - ICU

About the role

The nurse extern position at FirstHealth of the Carolinas is designed for nursing students to gain practical experience across various nursing areas. This role involves working alongside registered nurses (RNs) and performing both direct and indirect patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care, including performing routine treatment procedures and assisting with examinations and procedures.
• Accurately observes, records, and reports patient concerns, symptoms, reactions, and progress.
• Assists RNs in activities of daily living and maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
• Maintains cleanliness of assigned patient care areas and acts as a sitter for patients as needed.
• Participates in patient care rounds, handles patient requests, and reports changes in condition or behavior.
• Aids in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes of patients.
• Ensures compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a nationally accredited nursing program in their final year of an Associate or Bachelor's Degree program.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and shift rotations as needed.
• Knowledge of basic and intermediate care skills, demonstrated through mentorship, preceptorship, and ongoing education.
• BLS certification is required.
