Nurse Director, Rehab & Medical Surgical Stroke Unit

Job Summary

The Nurse Director collaborates with the Associate Chief Nursing Officer to plan and deliver clinical services efficiently and effectively. They oversee the unit's operations, staff, and care delivery while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Manages and directs all activities of the department, providing leadership and support for clinical staff.
• Evaluates and identifies a plan for problem-solving, conducting formal and informal meetings to communicate goals and progress.
• Maintains interface with nursing leadership to coordinate clinical operational activities and ensure adequate staffing.
• Identifies staff educational needs and ensures appropriate competencies are met.
• Directs personnel actions related to areas of responsibility, including hiring, performance management, staff development, disciplinary action, etc.
• Aids in the development of care delivery models and facilitates ongoing refinement of these models.
• Ensures a safe environment of care for all staff, patients, and families.
• Affirms compliance with regulatory agencies, staff competence, licensure, and continuing education requirements.
• Collaborates with ACNO, Chiefs of Services, and other interdisciplinary team members to achieve Quality Dashboard targets set by the Board of Directors.
• Develops and communicates a strategic and operational plan for clinical areas, facilitating periodic meetings with the ACNO to set unit goals and objectives.
• Facilitates and evaluates inter-shift communication and cooperation.
• Plans and meets periodically with the ACNO to discuss unit goals and objectives.
• Develops and implements a Performance Improvement Program to monitor the quality and effectiveness of care delivered in the department.
• Affirms compliance with Joint Commission standards.
• Collaborates with administrative leadership to develop strategic and operational plans for clinical areas.
• Communicates plans and continuously evaluates plans.
• Serves as a role model for professional development.
• Responsible for own professional development, setting goals, and striving to achieve them through available resources.
• Maintains management competencies through attending seminars, in-services, and reading journals.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
• Master’s degree in Nursing or related field required.
• R.I. State Nursing Licensure required, along with graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• BLS certification required.
• A minimum of five years’ job-related experience is required; ten years of job-related experience preferred.
• Certification in administration or related specialty is preferred and required within two years of hire.
