Nurse Director, Hospital - Maternal Child Health
About the role
This position establishes best practice models, performs strategic planning, and designs patient care delivery systems and practice standards across multiple locations. The role leads investigations into patient/family/member concerns, partners with physicians and healthcare providers to ensure optimal and safe patient care, and manages resource needs in clinical areas. The position also evaluates equipment, supplies, and medications, ensures patient and employee safety, maintains clinical expertise, and provides clinical supervision and licensing. Additionally, the role collaborates with Nursing Clinical Practice to ensure compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities

- Provides guidance for difficult decisions; creates opportunities for expanded decision-making impact.
- Oversees operation of multiple units by identifying member and operational needs; ensures work assignment completion.
- Translates business strategy into actionable requirements; ensures products/services meet member expectations.
- Gains cross-functional support for business plans; sets standards, measures progress, and resolves escalated issues.
- Communicates goals and objectives; analyzes resources, costs, and forecasts for business plans.
- Removes obstacles impacting performance; guides performance and develops contingency plans.
- Directs hospital administrative functions, including timelines, strategy development, and accountability for performance targets.
- Champions short- and long-term operational initiatives; aligns cross-functional programs with Kaiser Permanente’s mission and values.
- Directs continuous survey readiness activities, including mock rounds and compliance mitigation.
- Oversees budget development and ensures financial performance meets expectations.
- Manages care delivery operations in a 24/7 environment, partnering with physicians and clinical leaders.
- Oversees long-term plans, policies, and processes for data-gathering and analysis.
- Drives cross-functional patient management solutions with internal and external leaders.
- Directs multidisciplinary hospital teams and holds them accountable for performance.
- Collaborates on emergency preparedness programs and adjusts plans as needed.
- Provides strategic direction to project teams and ensures equitable resource distribution.
- Oversees nursing services and patient care delivery in alignment with cost, quality, and clinical standards.
- Drives internal and external strategic projects to improve quality, service, affordability, and efficiency.
- Defines standards for clinical teams to identify root causes of escalations and implement solutions.
- Develops strategic plans for integrated services across the continuum of care.
- Consults with senior management to identify and implement performance metrics.
- Ensures safe, quality, and standardized care delivery in a 24/7 environment.
- Develops and implements strategies to improve clinical practices, services, and operations.
- Holds managers accountable for compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Establishes and monitors outcome objectives for patient care improvement.
Requirements
- Minimum seven (7) years of experience in patient care delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) and minimum seven (7) years of experience in business operations, clinical healthcare, or a related field.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience managing operational or project budgets.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a leadership role with direct reports.
- Basic Life Support certification required at hire.
- Registered Nurse License (California) required at hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) from the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL).
- Nurse Executive Certification (NE-BC) or Nurse Executive Advanced Certification (NEA-BC) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
