About the role

This position establishes best practice models, performs strategic planning, and designs patient care delivery systems and practice standards across multiple locations. The role leads the investigation of patient/family/member concerns, partners with physicians and healthcare providers to optimize safe patient care, manages clinical resource needs, evaluates equipment and medication use, and ensures patient and employee safety. The position maintains clinical expertise, provides supervision, and delegates tasks aligned with scope of practice. Additionally, it collaborates with Nursing Clinical Practice to ensure compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares individuals for growth opportunities and advancement; builds internal collaborative networks.

  • Oversees the operation of multiple units within a department by identifying member and operational needs; ensures work assignment completion.
  • Translates business strategy into actionable requirements; ensures products/services meet member expectations and align with organizational strategies.
  • Gains cross-functional support for business plans and priorities; sets standards, measures progress, and resolves escalated issues.
  • Communicates goals and objectives; analyzes resources, costs, and forecasts to incorporate into business plans; prioritizes and distributes resources.
  • Removes obstacles impacting performance; guides performance and develops contingency plans to ensure business objectives are met.
  • Directs hospital administrative functions, including approving timelines, developing strategies with stakeholders, and ensuring department performance targets.
  • Develops and reviews ad hoc reports and workflows; directs department response and assumes accountability for performance.
  • Champions short- and long-term operational initiatives; directs program, service, and system development.
  • Aligns cross-functional programs (e.g., workplace and patient safety, HR, labor relations, training, quality/risk management) with organizational mission and values.
  • Directs continuous survey readiness activities, including mock rounds and compliance mitigation; reviews audit documentation and reports.
  • Oversees budget development for assigned areas and ensures financial performance meets expectations.
  • Manages care delivery operations in a 24/7 environment by partnering with physicians and clinical leaders to align key initiatives.
  • Oversees long-term planning, policies, and processes for data-gathering and analysis; ensures alignment with guidelines and regulations.
  • Drives cross-functional patient management solutions with internal and external leaders; aligns hospital resources for appropriate assignment and utilization.
  • Directs multidisciplinary hospital teams and holds them accountable for performance.
  • Collaborates on and oversees emergency preparedness programs; adjusts plans as needed and ensures training for managers and staff.
  • Provides strategic direction to project teams; ensures implementation, equitable resource distribution, and delivery on objectives.
  • Oversees teams responsible for nursing services and patient care in a 24/7 environment, aligning with cost, quality, and clinical standards.
  • Directs improvements to operations and technology processes by driving strategic projects for issue remediation and improved quality, service, and efficiency.
  • Defines standards for clinical teams to identify root causes of escalations, make recommendations, and implement solutions.
  • Drives strategic plans to achieve integrated services across the continuum of care in alignment with enterprise-wide goals.
  • Consults with senior and executive management to identify and implement performance metrics for strategic improvement projects.
  • Ensures safe, quality, and standardized care delivery by developing and implementing strategies for continuous improvement of clinical practices and operations.
  • Holds managers accountable for compliance with legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission).
  • Establishes and monitors outcome objectives; oversees design and implementation of systems and processes to evaluate and improve patient care.

Requirements

  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in patient care delivery.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) and minimum seven (7) years of experience in business operations, clinical healthcare, or a related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience managing operational or project budgets.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a leadership role with direct reports.
  • Basic Life Support certification required at hire.
  • Registered Nurse License (California) required at hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) from the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL).
  • Nurse Executive Certification (NE-BC) or Nurse Executive Advanced Certification (NEA-BC) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Schedule

  • Full-time
  • Day shift: Monday–Friday, 08:00 AM–04:30 PM
  • Scheduled weekly hours: 40
  • Worker location: Onsite

Pay

Pay range: $249,000 – $288,200 per year. Actual base pay determined at offer will be based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate’s years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
