Responsibilities

• Directs nursing service activities for the assigned unit, with 24/7 responsibility for nursing operations.
• Ensures the highest level of clinical quality, customer service, and cost effectiveness.
• Integrates the assigned areas of responsibility into the Medical Center's philosophy, mission, and vision.
• Establishes annual operating goals and objectives for the assigned unit based on the Medical Center's needs and challenges.
• Aligns nursing unit efforts with the Medical Director and Top Management goals and objectives.
• Participates in and/or leads cross-functional teams to drive rapid and sound changes for national and international leadership in clinical outcomes.
• Plans, organizes, and directs activities of the assigned unit through management of team leaders and supervisors.
• Prepares the unit’s annual operating and capital expense budget; identifies upcoming expenses and implements equipment purchases/replacements.
• Maintains budgetary/fiscal practices, monitors expenses, identifies variances, and implements solutions for compliance.
• Organizes the establishment of new programs or remodeling of existing programs to achieve unit and Medical Center goals.
• Ensures processes and procedures provide consistent, timely, high-quality, and cost-effective clinical results.
• Responsible for maintaining and improving clinical care to be rated among the best in the U.S., including:
  • Maintaining licenses and accreditations.
  • Timely reporting and peer review of incidents.
  • Correcting issues leading to incidents promptly.
  • Monitoring compliance with regulatory/accreditation agencies.
• Creates, integrates, and initiates new concepts and practices to improve patient, family, physician, and employee satisfaction.
• Provides leadership in complex or stressful situations; counsels staff and physicians based on factual information.
• Actively participates in Medical Center reorganization initiatives, proactively implementing changes with minimal impact.
• Identifies staffing patterns to cover unit needs around the clock, monitoring schedules in relation to patient acuity, census, and resources.
• Acts as a focal communication point with other departments; coordinates and integrates inter-departmental services.
• Assesses and improves unit services by implementing the Performance Improvement program.
• Monitors and enforces performance improvement and quality control activities.
• Participates in cross-organizational activities to improve unit performance and shares learning with the team.
• Supports the database information system; maintains knowledge of data entry, maintenance, and reporting.
• Ensures appropriate documentation as required by professional and Medical Center standards.
• Establishes and maintains Medical Center safety and compliance policies.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse with an active State of Florida License.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Specialty or National/Professional Certification preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and/or healthcare-related services preferred; Master’s degree and national certification in specialty preferred.
• Five years of experience in nursing at the management level.
