About the Role

Provides on-site consultation, education, and technical assistance to domestic hospitals and health care systems to assist in improving patient care, quality, and safety. Collaborates with Joint Commission Resources Central Office staff and colleagues to generate leads, develop proposals, and pursue sales of consultations and other services. Maintains active knowledge of Joint Commission Standards, health care trends, and discipline-specific content.

Responsibilities

  • Provides on- and off-site consultation and education to domestic and international health care organizations, emphasizing practical approaches in applying Joint Commission standards and technical assistance for health care operations improvement.
  • Identifies unique needs of client organizations and tailors consulting services accordingly.
  • Responsible for business development, including client relationship management, lead generation, proposal development, and sales of Joint Commission Resources products and services.
  • Maintains and grows client relationships through ongoing communications and systematic follow-up processes.
  • If serving as Team Leader, leads a team of consultants to deliver comprehensive client engagements, ensuring timely and quality execution of all contracted deliverables.
  • Prepares well-articulated and focused written consultation reports for senior health care executives.
  • Obtains client feedback on service quality and actively makes improvements.
  • Promotes Joint Commission Resources products and services through public speaking engagements and representation at national/international conferences.
  • Serves as a key contact for state hospital associations related to contract deliverables or coordinates educational workshops.
  • Writes or reviews papers, chapters, case studies, or articles for publication in Joint Commission Resources journals or newsletters.
  • Participates in professional development activities to stay current on Joint Commission policies, products, services, standards, and survey processes.
  • Executes a continuous development plan through performance discussions, feedback, and learning opportunities.
  • Participates in committees, task forces, or teams to design, test, evaluate, and redesign consulting and education products, services, and business processes.
  • Shares innovations, creative strategies, and experiences with colleagues.
  • Develops educational materials for revenue-generating opportunities when requested.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and integrity in all aspects of work, including timely submission of deliverables, time tracking, expense reimbursement, and sales justification.
  • Models quality and collaboration across Joint Commission Resources services and with colleagues.
  • Participates in the training and mentoring of consultants when requested.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years of experience in health care, with seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in senior health care management or quality/performance improvement.
  • Experience in a health care consulting role is highly desirable.
  • Preferred candidates have performance improvement experience in settings over 250 beds and/or strong standards knowledge in applicable Joint Commission programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, including professional involvement in leadership roles, teaching, consulting, or relevant publications.
  • 100% travel required.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:
    • Nurse: Graduated from an approved school of nursing with a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline.
    • Technologist or Infection Control Professional: Certified in Infection Control (CIC) with a minimum of five to seven years of recent experience as an infection preventionist in a hospital or relevant setting. Knowledgeable about health care epidemiology. Teaching and writing skills required.
    • Other Health Care Practitioner: Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in a related field. Current professional licensure in related disciplines is required (when required by law) at the time of hire. No history of disciplinary action(s) relative to current or previous professional license, provided such adverse action did not result solely from an individual’s health status.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in health care operations, clinical practice, performance improvement methods, and current research and trends in health care practices.
  • Experience in an accredited health care organization is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the consulting competency framework, including professional/technical competence, consulting methodology, management, effective communication, self-management, business development, and professional development.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CMS guidance, Joint Commission Resources, and Joint Commission International policies, procedures, standards, and survey processes (e.g., Tracer, Sustainable Improvement, Performance Improvement, Robust Process Improvement, Root Cause Analyses, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
  • Business acumen and ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels within client organizations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel continually (80-90% domestic travel) and adapt to varying situations and cultures.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software, as well as internet and web-based tools such as Client Relationship Management and Consultant Knowledge Center.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, and work in settings where infectious diseases may be present.

Pay

Minimum USD $101,000.00/year, Maximum USD $115,000.00/year.
