About the Role

This position will utilize nursing skills to perform patient assessments via phone or in person and implement nursing interventions. The Nurse Clinician will work in a multidisciplinary environment, requiring exceptional interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, clinical, and administrative units. The role involves independent thinking, creativity in resolving patient care issues, and initiating and organizing patient education for the served population.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and clean work environment and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. Report and assist in rectifying deficiencies as requested.
• Assume responsibility for and supervision of the appropriate care of medical equipment.
• Provide pre-attending care for patients, performing comprehensive assessments of the chief complaint and patient needs using the nursing process.
• Based on findings, seek solutions and offer opinions to physicians and other healthcare providers.
• Document all nursing assessments clearly, completely, and legibly in the patient’s medical record while maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Understand and uphold protocols and procedures for the release of patient/medical information.
• Perform routine nursing duties (e.g., phlebotomy, medication administration, vital signs measurement, lab specimen preparation) and demonstrate clinical competency in complex specialty-related procedures (e.g., conscious sedation, chemotherapy administration, wound excision and drainage).
• Interpret abnormalities in tests and procedures and take appropriate remedial action.
• Document all interventions clearly and legibly in the patient medical record.
• Communicate and collaborate with other clinical and administrative departments to coordinate patient care, including communication with outside agencies or facilities.
• Triage and prioritize incoming telephone calls using clinical assessment skills and service standards, documenting all assessments appropriately.
• Manage urgent/emergent medical situations according to organizational protocols for medical emergencies and cardiac arrests, including operating emergency equipment.
• Serve as a resource for staff and physicians for daily problem-solving and decision-making.
• Maintain alertness to patient care needs and proactively address/resolve issues.
• Delegate appropriate tasks to Licensed Practical Nurses and Medical Assistants according to Illinois law and organizational protocols.
• Comply with all existing policies and procedures related to patient care and recommend improvements to management.
• Ensure new policies and procedures are implemented in a timely manner.
• Initiate and coordinate patient education, ensuring patients understand materials and can demonstrate comprehension when pertinent.
• Provide formal and informal teaching to staff and participate in community outreach, patient support groups, or specialty-related educational programs as requested.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
• State Licensed Registered Nurse for the state of employment.
• Certification in Basic CPR.
• 2 years of relevant clinical experience in an acute or ambulatory care environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing (may be required for certain positions).
