About the role

This position assists in patient care throughout the nursing areas and/or stay suites, responsible for safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services, and appropriate documentation of services. Also provides the services of an observer for any patient requiring constant observation.

Responsibilities

  • Set up room for post op patients.
  • Deliver patient’s belongings to patient rooms.
  • Orient patient to room and call lights.
  • Frequent vital signs.
  • Teach bedside exercises.
  • Educate about diet-chart nutritional monitoring on all meals.
  • Ambulate patients.
  • Linen/Supplies (Stock): Change dressings as indicated per policy and procedure.
  • Transport patient to vehicle on discharge.
  • Bladder scan as indicated per protocol.
  • Reports patient’s status and needs to RN.
  • Answer call lights and attends to/reports patient needs.
  • Obtains urine/stool/sputum specimens.
  • Transfers, moves and repositions patients.
  • Makes occupied and unoccupied beds.
  • Maintains current knowledge and certification requirements.
  • Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety and specific job-related hazards.
  • Respects and regards the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.

Requirements

  • Current Nursing Assistant certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support.
  • CPR certification from American Heart Association (AHA).

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ patient care experience.

  • Knowledge of bowel and bladder function.
  • Knowledge of bed changes, etc.
  • Knowledge of nutrition.
  • Knowledge of ambulation.
  • Knowledge of flow sheet.
  • Knowledge of pain.
  • Knowledge of empty catheters, drains, urinals and bedpans as indicated.
  • Knowledge of assisting housekeeping with breakdown and setting up of patient rooms.
  • Knowledge of transporting beds to PACU.
